Actem uses WATERJET & GAS BURNING PROFILING and the benefits are that a broad bandwidth of materials can be processed that have a very high quality in their cutting results. This eradicates expensive additional costs for finishing. With waterjet cutting the cut material is influenced neither by thermal nor processing forces that almost a boundless range of materials can be processed.

Actem was established in 1987 initially to fulfill the fabrication requirements for companies based in the North of England, specializing within the North East, servicing the counties of Tyne & Wear, Cleveland, County Durham, Yorkshire, and Northumberland, and with the new and ongoing investment programme we can offer a full and comprehensive range of subcontracting profiling, forming, Steel fabrication, welding and engineering services throughout the United Kingdom. Actem offers a tailor made solution for all profiling requirements, these include:- Laser, Waterjet and Gas Burning profiling facilities. We can also offer Pressbraking capabilities up to 5mt in length and 300t through are range of pressbrakes on site. Actem has full welding and fabrication on site services. These facilities are complimented with our complete finishing services inclusive of shot blast-assembly-powder coating and painting.Actem are an investor not just in plant and equipment but also in our staff. We have continued in our apprenticeship schemes along with ongoing training and career development for all our 50 employees. This training and development programme enables Actem to incorporate the full skills and experience necessary to offer the marketplace the demands of a high quality finished product at today’s competitive price.Our traditional core business is the supply of components for the “Yellow Goods” off-road specialist automotive industry, and one of our prestigious customers include Caterpillar UK incorporating sites at Peterlee, Stockton-on-Tees and Leicester. We have also been involved in major civil contracts such as the Nissan Tyne Car terminal for Harbour & General, Euro Tunnel and work that encompasses both on and off shore petrochemical and renewable energies. THE HISTORY OF WATERJET

The power of waterSince primative times ,the form of hard materials in nature have been changed by water. However, it took until early modern times before industry also began to use the power of water purposefully. For the first time in the mid-1720`s, the rising effect of a waterjet was used in foundries for the wet cleaning of cast iron and in mining to break coal and precious metals from stone. The water pressure that was used at that time was only approximately 100 bar.In the early 1960,s the U.S aircraft industry pursued a plan to cut fiber composites, honeycomb, and layered materials with a high-pressure waterjet . A first milestone on the path to todays industrial usage was laid in 1968, when Dr Norman Franz, a professor at the University of British Columbia, was granted a patent for the first design of a high pressure waterjet cutting system.The water pressure provided was already approximately 700 bar. At the beginning of the 70`s pressures of up to 4000 bar were possible but due to low cutting power of the pure high-pressure waterjet no hard materials such as steel or stone could be processed yet. The problem was only solved at the beginning of the 1980`s when solid particles were added to the waterjet, these particles were called "abrasives" .Now a recommended operating pressure of 5300 bar may be used to cut metals over 150mms

Actem can manufacture stairs, ladders and platforms in accordance with current British Standards and which are specifically designed to comply with Health & Safety requirements. Manufactured in stainless or mild steel these can be finished through painting, galvanizing or both. We also offer an installation service to ensure the finished quality of the project.Depending on our clients’ requirements,platforms can be supplied with self closing gates, ensuring that access is restricted according to site regulations, while perimeter hand railing is designed to offer safety without restricting practical usage of the platform. Toe boards around the platform stop items being accidentally knocked off and avoiding potential hazards for those underneath. For over 20 years Actem has been manufacturing and assembling a wide range of structures and steel fabrications. Our employees take pride in delivering well engineered and high quality products. We are able to maintain our high standards through structured implementation of quality procedures and the deployment of highly skilled personnel. Structures range from primary and secondary support steelwork for the construction and offshore industries, sea fastenings and cranejibs for the shipping industry, as well as specialised tanks and vessels for the chemical industry. Actem offers a range of finishes from simple primer finish to shot-blast and specialist paint applications. We are experienced in working with our customer or contractors where the product requires multi-trade involvement and are able to project manage where required. Installation can be planned, managed and completed either by Actem or it can be carried out under the direction of the customer /main contractor.

A highly skilled workforce offers unrivalled expertise and experience of manufacture and assembly for all types of project in carbon steel, stainless steels, aluminium and a variety of other metals. Extensive workshop facilities mean the size and shape of the project is virtually without limit, while sophisticated equipment is available for handling, welding, turning, rolling and cutting of steel and other materials.The company has a demonstrated capability for light, medium and heavy fabrications, including structural steel work, access platforms, ladders, ducting and plate work. Structural fabrication is carried out in the facilities 20,000 sq ft workshop, equipped with triple 10-tonne Crane capacity, while the site also has a facility for shot blasting and commercial coatings application.

Furthermore we are committed to continuous, on-going training for each trade. Our QA/ QC Inspection Engineers ensure that our welding procedure and welder qualification register is up to date and we can supply full documentation packs for each project if required, all of these attributes go towards achieving On Time delivery
